EN 480-13 sand is composed of natural silica sand (silica content greater than 97%) with a water content less than 0.1%. Its average density is 2.63 t / m3. The constituent grains of these sands are uncrushed and rounded in shape. The sand is packaged in a 3440 ± 10 g bag. It is intended for making reference masonry cement mortars to judge the effectiveness of the admixture.
The granularity of the sand for masonry mortar is set by standard EN 480-13. The particle size range to be observed is given in the following table:
|Tamis mailles carrees (mm)||Passants cumlules (%)|
|4||94 á 100||2||94 á 100|
|2||77 á 87||1||77 á 87|
|1||60 á 70||0.5||60 á 70|
|0.5||39 á 49||0.125||39 á 49|
|0.125||13 á 23||0.063||13 á 23|
